Yes! Our dressings sold at retail are exactly the same as those used in healthcare facilities so you can benefit from this hospital quality in your home.
What’s the difference between Mepilex® Border Flex and Border Flex Lite?
Border Flex is designed for wounds with medium to heavy drainage and has five layers total with three wound pad layers. Border Flex Lite is for light draining wounds and has four layers total, with two wound pad layers. Of course, it can also be used for non-draining wounds that still need protection. The wound pads in both dressings absorb and retain drainage, and the extra layer in Border Flex can also trap bacteria away from wounds.
Border Flex is intended for wounds such as skin tears, minor burns and cuts while Border Flex Lite is intended for minor surgical incisions, abrasions and blisters.
Why does Mepilex® Border Flex Lite come in different sizes?
Wounds aren’t “one size fits all” so we’ve found it helpful to provide options for different wound sizes and shapes. There tends to be a relatively higher need for dressings for lower draining wounds during at-home treatment, so we’ve provided the largest variety of options in this product line.
I noticed that Mepilex® Border Flex Lite 1.6” x 2” doesn’t have the product name or the drainage tracking dots on the top layer. Why is that?
The wound pad in this size is too small to adequately feature the brand name sand tracking dots so we left these features off of this size. Other than that, it’s the same as the other Border Flex Lite sizes.
Why don’t I see all of your dressings in different retail stores?
Assortments may vary because individual retailers consider available shelf space and which products will be more important for their stores.
Are the 360° Flex Technology Y-cuts in all of the dressings? I don’t always seem them on the smaller versions.
Yes, they’re in the wound pads- we promise! The Y-cuts are the same size, regardless of the dressing’s wound pad size. So it can be a little more challenging to see their complete shape through the backing film on the smaller sizes. But, they’re inside, working hard to keep the dressing in place and comfortable.
If the 360° Flex Technology helps the dressing “move in all directions”, does that mean it can move off of my wound?
No, we just mean that the Flex Technology allows the dressing to adapt to the wearer’s movements so it doesn’t tug or stress the skin. This increases comfort, while conforming and staying on1 2 .
A lot of bandages claim not to hurt. What’s the difference in your Safetac® Adhesive Technology?
Safetac® was specifically designed to help minimize pain with advanced wounds. While traditional adhesives may strip skin cells, Safetac doesn’t, which reduces pain at dressing removal and changes3 .
When should I talk to a healthcare professional about a wound?
If the wound gets worse or persists or if there are signs of infection such as redness, swelling, fever, pain or burning, increased drainage, becomes warm to the touch, please consult a healthcare provider. Additionally, if the wound is deep, bleeding a lot and has open gaps, please consult your healthcare provider. Large wounds and burns should be seen by a health care provider.
